Roads Policing Unit Statistics

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island's roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, January 26th – Monday, February 2nd 2009 there were:

* Reported Injury Collisions = 11
* Reported Damage Only Collisions = 35
* Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 3
* Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 14
* Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Hamilton parish = 1, Smith’s parish = 1, Pembroke = 8, Warwick = 3 and Sandy’s parish = 1.

Sudden Death - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 42 year old Gary Kenneth Grant of Pembroke. Around 5pm on Sunday, Police attended a report of a sudden death at a Marsh Lane, Pembroke property (The Salvation Army Emergency Housing Complex). On arrival officers observed the victim in an unresponsive state inside his apartment. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by an on call physician at 6:09pm.

Missing Person

Mehdi David YahiThe Bermuda Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 30 year old Mehdi David Yahi. Mr. Yahi, a French national visiting the island is described as a white male, approximately 5’7” tall of slim build, clean shaven with black hair.

Sudden Death

Around 5pm on Sunday, Police attended a report of a sudden death at a Marsh Lane, Pembroke property (The Salvation Army Emergency Housing Complex). There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances. The Bermuda Police Service extends our sincere condolences to the family & friends of Gary Kenneth Grant on his untimely passing.

Injury RTC - At 3:20pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Knapton Hill and Harrington Hundreds Road in Smith's parish involving an SUV and an auxiliary cycle. It appears that the SUV was traveling north on Harrington Hundreds Road and the auxiliary cycle was traveling east on Knapton Hill when the vehicles collided at the junction.

At 3:20pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Knapton Hill and Harrington Hundreds Road in Smith's parish involving an SUV and an auxiliary cycle. It appears that the SUV was traveling north on Harrington Hundreds Road and the auxiliary cycle was traveling east on Knapton Hill when the vehicles collided at the junction. The rider of the cycle, a 16 year old Paget man, sustained lacerations to his right hand, right leg and abdomen. The driver of the SUV, a 34 year old Smith's parish woman, was not injured. The cycle was extensively damaged while the SUV received moderate front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
