Assault

At 10:45pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of an assault on Bowes Lane in Sandy’s parish. It appears that around 10:30pm that day the victim, a 25 year old Sandy’s parish man, was sitting on a motorcycle in the Bowes Lane area when a group of unknown men approached him brandishing blunt objects. The group of men assaulted the victim, striking him in the head and body. The assailants then fled the immediate area on foot before making good their escape in two unknown cars traveling south on Bowes Lane and east on Malabar Road. The Sandy’s parish man was rushed to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of head injuries which are considered serious, but not life threatening at this time. The suspects are described as young men of small build wearing black clothing.

Injury RTC - Around 9:20am on Wednesday, Police received a report of a road traffic collision resulting in injury on Granaway Lane in Southampton involving a van and a pedestrian. It appears that around 7:25am the pedestrian, an 11 year old Southampton boy, was walking along Granaway Lane when a white van collided with him, knocking the boy to the ground. The van did not stop. The victim sustained a swollen & bruised left knee, scratches to his right leg and a swollen right eye. The white van is described as having tinted windows and apparently leaves the Granaway Lane area around 7:30am each morning.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact PC Kendy Swainson at the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010.

Update - Sudden Death of Kenneth DeSilva

After an initial investigation and an autopsy performed by an overseas forensic pathologist, foul play is not suspected in the sudden death of 46 year old Kenneth Noel DeSilva of St. George’s.

Road Traffic Death of Moses Jacobs

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 38 year old Moses Jacobs of Pembroke who died as a result of injuries received in a collision that took place around 5:40am Saturday on Middle Road in Southampton in the area of Jew’s Bay. He was taken to KEMH where he was pronounced dead at 2:25pm Monday. The Bermuda Police Service would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The death of Moses Jacobs marks the 3rd road traffic fatality for 2009.
